In 2011, Matthews increased that number by 25% by raising a total of $105,570.52 for United Way!  This total includes Allegheny County, Butler County and United Way of Greater St. Louis.

2011    $105,570.52
2010    $79,138.32
2009    $60,089.41

We had dozens of incredible prizes for employees who pledged, including Penguins tickets, Steelers tickets, 2 family memberships to the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, an overnight stay at the Sheraton Station Square, AAA Plus and Basic AAA Memberships, Quicksilver golf rounds with carts and an assortment of gift cards.

A very big thank you goes out to our dedicated Division Coordinators!  Without each of you assisting at your locations, this total could have never been achieved.

Thank you to everyone who was able to contribute!

2011 United Way Day of Caring

This year’s Day of Caring took place on Tuesday, December 7 at the Toys for Toys warehouse in the Strip District.  On the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, volunteers from each Pittsburgh division of Matthews sorted, organized and packed toys for the Marines’ Toys for Tots program.  This Day of Caring was timed perfectly for 2 days after the conclusion of the 96.1 Kiss FM Stuff-a-Bus program, where the local radio station collected a record 28 school buses full of toys and delivered them all to the warehouse where we worked!

As a 2nd-time participant in the annual Day of Caring, I can personally add a big thank you to everyone who helped out and I know we all had a great time.

Once again, a big thank you to John Standard (Marking Products), who organized the entire event and kept everyone on track at the warehouse.

I look forward to the 2012 campaign and the challenge of trying to exceed this year’s total!
