Sustainability represents who we are and what we do every single day. We recognize that progress involves a balance of environmental stewardship, social responsibility and economic growth.
Our vision is of a world in which people’s basic needs – such as shelter, clean water, education and reliable energy – are fulfilled. We provide work environments, products, services and solutions that promote the productive and efficient use of resources as we strive to achieve our vision. We believe this commitment supports the enduring success of our customers, stockholders, and our people.
Matthews International has created a sustainability platform that is both relevant to their business activities and is in line with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. Our efforts are also guided by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the Taskforce on Climate related to Financial Disclosures (TCFD) to ensure that financial material sustainability information is available for review and consistently reported on in conjunction with ESG data.
Matthews International is committed to environmental stewardship and reducing the environmental footprint of our operations and supply chain. Our strategy is to align our environmental conservation goals with business growth by applying efficiency in the use of resources and implementing the Matthews Management System (MMS).
Our commitment is seen in the results of our actions. Matthews has reduced 53% of light usage at one site and 98% of VOC content in materials at another site. Driving equipment energy expenditure, reducing emissions, and improving efficiency throughout operations and our supply chain is not only good for the environment, it’s good for business too.
At Matthews International, we see diversity and inclusion (D&I) as a priority to be considered in every aspect of our business. United by our drive to create together, strive together and grow together, we are committed to continue to cultivate a culture of boundless possibilities for everyone.
The first pillar of Matthews Management System (MMS) is Safety and we are committed to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) excellence to protect our people, our communities and Matthews. We hold ourselves to high expectations and standards everywhere we work, and we assess the EHS impacts of our businesses before, during and after operations. Our site leaders use MMS to monitor performance through Total Incident Rate (TIR) and Days Away/Restricted Transfer (DART). EHS excellence is fundamental to who we are—it is what our leaders expect and our customers demand.
Being a good neighbor in our communities matters! We are not only committed to improving the lives of team members and customers, but also the people in the communities that we operate. This commitment leads us to maintain strong connections to the communities where we do business. Matthews has its own charity, the Matthews Children’s Foundation, that supports numerous children’s charities across the United States. Matthews is also a partner with United Way and the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and participates in numerous events throughout the year. We believe great communities are the foundation of great business.
Matthews Memorialization Children’s Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports local children’s charities across the United States. Since 1992, the Foundation has worked closely with our customers to grant nearly $5 million to community-based, nonprofit children’s organizations nationwide.
